Three-card brag was a gentleman’s game that was popular during the American Revolution. Today, it is still popular in the U.K. But the game has evolved. Instead of dealing a set of cards face up, the dealer gives each player a single card, then cuts the cards to reveal the rest. Unlike other poker games, a raise can be made in three-card brag.

Poker is also known for its bluffing. It is a form of strategizing, and bluffing involves placing a bet in a way that looks as if the other players do not have the best hand. Often, a player will not bet more than his or her initial wager, in order to bluff other players.

In some poker games, the final showdown occurs with a straight hand. In other poker games, the pot is split between the hands with the highest and lowest cards. Sometimes, the pot is awarded to the hand with the lowest cards, such as a flush.
